Which Type of Learner Are You?

Yenny is a qualified primary school teacher who has worked at a number of primary schools around Victoria. She currently works at Lore Tuition as Associate Director.

With advancements in technology, we now have many options for studying. Lore Tuition now provides the option of online tutoring. Many students are choosing to learn and relearn concepts off websites and web videos, but are these better than the traditional way of learning, i.e. reading from a textbook and attending class? Find out which one is better for your study habits.

By attending class, you should be more actively engaged, particularly with class discussion. If you attend class, you are able to ask questions about what confuses you, or simply to extend on what your teacher or tutor is explaining to everyone. You are able to adjust and annotate on a board or paper of what your instructor has written. Since there are no other distractions, you should be heavily focused on the topic at hand.

Textbooks are easy to read. All the information is right in front of you. All you have to do is flip to the right page and read. There is no need for waiting for pages to load.

Learning from websites and web videos is generally cheaper because textbooks can be expensive. You can access any information in the world just by searching up the right terms. The best part about learning concepts from a video is that you can always pause and rewind, so you don’t have to scribble your notes down so quickly that when you head home, your notes are barely readable.

Based on my experience, nothing can surpass attending class and reading from a hard copy of a textbook. I was forced to purchase an ebook once for class. I am an impatient person, so I was not pleased with the half second delay of waiting for the pages to flip. I like scribbling in my textbook so it’s full of sticky notes with my annotations. I enjoy learning from a classroom setting because I am able to meet and socialise with others, from whom I can learn more from what I was expecting.

Of course, everyone is different. Some do not even have the option of learning from a classroom setting, which is why Lore Tuition has started online tutoring. Those living in the country have limited options for advancing their education, and if you know anyone to be in this situation, then Lore Tuition’s online tuition is perfect for them. Students that don’t have access to a nearby campus are able to collaborate in real time and ask questions using Scribblar.

So which type of learner are you? You may be one or the other, or even both.
